Somewhat Productive

I have been somewhat productive today so far, for me at least. This is nothing compared to what I could accomplish if I were healthier, but anyway.

I decided to stop taking the birth control pills a couple weeks ago. I have been on them since 1998 with only two breaks: when I was in the hospital in 2005 and in 2007 when they were testing for Cushing’s. Both of those were only a month’s time. My rheumy said at the last appointment in August that they could be causing my high liver enyzmes. Personally, I think it’s the insulin resistance causing that, but I read recently that bc pills can make insulin resistance worse so maybe indirectly they are. I also wanted to see if my high heart rate and blood pressure would be any lower without them. I kind of doubt they will.

Speaking of my high blood pressure, I called my cardiologist the Friday before last to see if she would put me on something since the clonidine made my BP worse instead of better and I don’t see her again till Dec. 2. Haven’t heard back yet. I guess I’ll have to call again. Unless they’re just mailing me a prescription…I think they did that once before when I called because she wrote the prescription wrong. You would think they could at least call to let you know they’re mailing a prescription.

So that brings me back to why I was productive. Since I stopped the bc pills, I’ve been feeling like painting again, but my craft/art/puzzle table was a mess. So was my cabinet of art supplies. I cleaned up both of those and decided to work on my unicorn paint by number again. While I was working on it, I discovered that one of the little paint pots is missing! This is not good. I have no idea where it got to, but as it’s little and rolls, I sure it ended up being a cat toy. Who knows where it could be now? I’m going to have Joe move the fridge out when he gets home. There’s too much dust under there to see with a flashlight. I didn’t see it under the stove. I looked all around the kitchen/den area and if it’s not under the fridge…I’m not sure where else to look. A cat could have carried it to any of the other rooms.

First of November

This year I will again be participating in NaBloPoMo. I need to get back into the habit of posting here. Of course, after posting every day for a month I may just be sick of posting.

Today I’m seeing my best friend from middle school for the first time in 10 years. I last saw her right after I graduated high school when I visited her for a few days. She’s visiting her mom this weekend for a baby shower for her brother.

Cooking

We’ve been doing a lot more cooking the past few months. Most of the cooking is from recipes (online and from books) although I did come up with a barbeque (sloppy joe) recipe that we really like that was frankensteined from several different recipes based on what we had in the house. Maybe if people are interested I’ll post or link to some of the recipes that actually turned out well (with pictures). Some weren’t as tasty as we thought they would be. I also learned that I don’t really like cilantro last weekend.

I’ve been trying to eat low-carb and have been avoiding whole wheat as well, as it seems to make me nauseaous. I also can’t have Splenda as that makes me nauseaous as well. I do okay with stevia though in my tea.

Yesterday I made a mexican dip and we had chicken and broccoli in the wok. They both turned out well, but my favorite taco/mexican dip is still one that I learned from my friend’s mom in high school. Today I’m making chili in the crock pot. I haven’t tried this recipe before. I haven’t really found a chili recipe that I really like yet. Tomorrow we’re making cole slaw to take to a small family picnic at my parents’.

I love measuring and mixing up ingredients, but I’m horrible at chopping so Joe usually gets stuck with that. I do well with ground beef but won’t touch or cook chicken so Joe gets stuck with that as well.

Last weekend I made a homemade salsa and guacamole. I liked the guacamole, but didn’t like the salsa (it had cilantro in it). We also tried to make taco shells out of fried cheese based on a recipe earlier this week but that didn’t turn out as well as I had hoped.

The Best Wrist Brace Ever

This has to be the best wrist brace ever. I’ve been using one for about the past two years at work. It’s still usable but I bought a new one and am going to use the old one at home. My crafting gloves haven’t been enough lately and I need some better support for cross-stitching since my right wrist has been aching lately while cross-stitching.

I really recommend this if you need a wrist brace and have small hands. It’s not bulky at all and it’s very comfortable.

Knoebels

Today Joe and I went to Knoebels Amusement Park and had a great time. I am EXHAUSTED but it was worth it.

All my life I’ve lived very close to Hershey Park and have gone there at least once almost every summer. I’ve only been to Knoebels a few times. I wanted to go there this time instead of Hershey Park because there’s no admission fee and you just pay for tickets (or for an all-day wristband). $20 in tickets was enough for us to go on everything we wanted. Joe’s not a big fan of coasters or upside-down rides. I suppose it’s fortunate in that aspect that I’m “unwell” as I love coasters and rides that go upside-down and all-around. With my current autonomic nervous system dysfunction, I have to be careful what I go on or I feel awful. I used to love the centrifugal force ride that sticks you to a wall that some places have, but when I went on that in Missouri a few years ago I felt like I was about to die.

We went to the haunted house (of course), the giant wheel, the log ride, and some others. We also played mini-golf, where I got several holes-in-one and came in under par. And we ate a lot of bad (but so good!) food. It wasn’t that crowded and there was hardly any wait for rides. The day was sunny and kinda hot, but only in the mid-80s. All in all, it was a really fun day.

I also made some purchases there: two duckies (from the arcade using skeeball tickets mainly), gems than I panned for from a bag of dirt, a cute little stuffed skunk that I named Missy, and a necklace with a unicorn on it. I just reread a bunch of Sweet Valley Twins books recently, and if you’ve ever read them you’ll know why I wanted it (yes, I’m actually 12 years old instead of 28).

It’s Been Awhile

It’s been several months since my last post here. I have my reasons, but I’m tired of not posting.

We got a second car again, from one of our co-workers. It has working AC! The AC in my car would have cost about $1000 to fix, so it’s still without it after two years, but I’ve been driving the new car in this hot weather.

I tried playing Age of Conan when it came out in the beginning of May but couldn’t get into it. Too buggy and I didn’t really like the way the characters looked. Creating characters there made me miss my EQII characters (I hadn’t played EQII since January). Then, in June, EQII came out with their Living Legacy promotion where unsubscribed people got two free months so I started playing again. Really enjoyed it, but the hours sitting upright after work caused my health to take a serious decline so I had to stop playing unfortunately.

I started cross-stitching again a few weeks ago and finished several. I also started working again on redoing my cross-stitch site, changing over to WordPress and a new layout. It’s still in progress though.

I’ve been reading a lot of young adult novels that I brought over from my parents: Fabulous Five, Sweet Valley Twins and High, Bad News Ballet, Girl Talk, River Heights, and others. I’m surprised at how much I remember from them. The Baby-Sitters Club is still my favorite though.

I discovered at the end of May that the drug I was taken for my high blood pressure since last summer has SULFA in it. Which I am allergic to. Which the doctors and pharmacies know. Yeah, I wasn’t happy to find that out. I switched doctors and just had my first appointment with my new doctor last week. The office is only 5 minutes away with no highway driving, unlike my last one that was 20 min away, all highway (he didn’t use to be that far away). The office people were all really nice and so was the doctor. She prescribed me Lunesta, which I requested, and the insurance company denied it at first because it required a pre-authorization form (hadn’t known that). The office got the form filled out and faxed and I had my approval within two days. The previous doctor’s office would forget about things like forms that needed to be faxed and so on.

So my health hasn’t been that good and when I see my cardiologist next (September) I’m going to see if she will fill out referral papers for a research hospital. Hopefully she will and I’ll be able to get an appointment. I don’t know though…she doesn’t seem to think that POTS causes any other symptoms than high heart rate, despite publications by the POTS experts describing other symptoms. I had asked my new family doctor about a referral and she said that the cardiologist would be a better choice to provide one.

That’s about all that’s been going on the past few months. Nothing too exciting.
