World of Warcraft

I started playing World of Warcraft again yesterday. Joe and I had gone back to Everquest II at the beginning of July, although we haven’t really played it at all the past month.

I had been working towards the Violet Proto-drake achievement, but I stopped playing right when the Midsummer Festival started, so I have to wait till next July to get my drake, which is pretty dissapointing, but it was my choice. I just did not feel like going around lighting all those fires.

Tomorrow Brewfest begins and I was excited to see that they’re having a new pet this year: the Pint-Sized Pink Elekk. I was suprised to find out yesterday that I was still able to do the Northend Children’s Week quest and I got my little Oracle Hatchling.

I don’t want to devote too much time to playing WoW again. I had enjoyed this last month of not really playing online games. I read, I cross-stitched, I crafted…it was nice.

WoW Companion Pets

(Sorry about all the WoW related posts for the non-players who read this)

One of the things I like best about WoW is all the companion pets. These are pets that follow you around and are just for looks. Some of these are easier to get than others. There are ones that you buy from the vendors and ones that are quest rewards and ones that drop from mobs and so on. The best site on these pets is Warcraft Pets. Blizzard even put a pet items vendor in the game that is the same as the site’s creator’s character.

Right now I have about 41 pets. After collecting 50 pets, you get a skunk pet from the collect 50 pets achievement. I have all of the non-reputation-required vendor pets, and several dropped pets and quest reward pets. You can see my collection at the Warcraft Pets site.

My rarest pet is the Dark Whelping. It’s a 1 in 1,000 drop rate. I didn’t actually acquire this myself…Joe did and gave it to me as a surprise gift.

Not Rushing to 80

I’m not rushing to 80 in WoW. However, most of the rest of the guild is. I just reached 70 a few weeks ago and was happy to finally be included in guild things. Now, once again, unless I kill myself leveling, I’m going to again be left out.

World of Warcraft is very different that what I’m used to in Everquest II. In EQII, you could have a lot of fun at any level. When our guild was active there, it was composed of people of all level and with the mentoring system, it was easy to play with lower level friends. You can help out lower level friends in WoW, but it’s not as fun for the helpee since all they can really do is watch while their high level friend takes out the mobs for them.

Even holiday events in WoW are catered toward the level-capped players. Quests that only they can get, high level instances, etc. The past Halloween event in EQII scaled to your level. I’m concerned that EQII is starting to take more of the WoW approach to things. They recently cut the amount of experience needed to level and the upcoming expansion is for upper level groups mainly (which is why I’m not getting it at the moment). I had preordered every other expansion but this one doesn’t interest me. I solo and I’m not 80 on any character. Plus I don’t even play much anymore.

Wrath of the Lich King

Last night we went to GameStop at 11:20. We went in, paid, and got our number (#45). We didn’t have to wait there and it was cold and rainy out so Joe and I went to Taco Bell and then he dropped me home before going back and picking up our copies.

I headed to the Borean Tundra first and the first thing I did was hunt down the last 2 frogs I need for the To All the Squirrels I’ve Loved Before achievement. Then Joe and I got started on questing.

I’m looking forward to leveling with the other people in the guild instead of leveling to catch up with everyone. It’s nice to be on a more even playing field.

WoW

Last night I finally got to level 70 on Calandria, my main in World of Warcraft. I started playing last January, played for two months, and then started playing again at the end of July. Calandria is a gnome warlock who is also a tailor and enchanter. Right now she has a long green ponytail but she started out with two pink puffy ponytails.

I’m enjoying playing right now because we’re in a pretty active guild that is also doing something. I’ve been on several raids and in a lot of instances. I also like the holiday activities and collecting pets.

I haven’t abandoned EQII completely. I still love that game but the fact that I never have anyone to group with is the main thing keeping me from playing.
