Not Rushing to 80

I’m not rushing to 80 in WoW. However, most of the rest of the guild is. I just reached 70 a few weeks ago and was happy to finally be included in guild things. Now, once again, unless I kill myself leveling, I’m going to again be left out.

World of Warcraft is very different that what I’m used to in Everquest II. In EQII, you could have a lot of fun at any level. When our guild was active there, it was composed of people of all level and with the mentoring system, it was easy to play with lower level friends. You can help out lower level friends in WoW, but it’s not as fun for the helpee since all they can really do is watch while their high level friend takes out the mobs for them.

Even holiday events in WoW are catered toward the level-capped players. Quests that only they can get, high level instances, etc. The past Halloween event in EQII scaled to your level. I’m concerned that EQII is starting to take more of the WoW approach to things. They recently cut the amount of experience needed to level and the upcoming expansion is for upper level groups mainly (which is why I’m not getting it at the moment). I had preordered every other expansion but this one doesn’t interest me. I solo and I’m not 80 on any character. Plus I don’t even play much anymore.

Hmm

I need a new layout for here and I have one in mind (and an istockphoto for it too) but I lack the actual inspiration to make it. Soon maybe.

I have something new to occupy my free time: World of Warcraft. I’ve always been a total EQII fan and had no interest in playing WoW. But the tier 8 pets from the expansion really made me upset: so upset that I didn’t want to play my Conjuror anymore, which was my only character I played to level 70 and was my main. Plus, as I haven’t been feeling well I wanted something I could play on my Powerbook while laying on the couch. I started playing about two weeks ago and I now have a level 30 hunter who’s favorite pet is a big pink flamingo-type bird. She has mining and engineering as her professions and the same name as my Mystic from EQII. Joe and I play on the Sentinels server with some friends of ours we met in EQII.

The holidays were pretty uneventful. We did the usual Christmas Eve with my parents and brother’s family at my parents’ house and then Christmas Day at my brother’s house. We went over to my aunt’s house for New Year’s Eve. Last weekend we had a game night at my brother’s house which was fun.

The only thing not so fun has been my health. I’m still having coughing fits and difficulty breathing, especially at night. You know, I’m wondering why my family doctor hasn’t tested me for asthma or anything. I told him about how when I was undecorating the tree, I had an episode where I could hardly breathe that lasted about 20 min and then I was still wheezy and coughing for several hours afterwards. I just saw him last week and will see him again in a month.

I go to see an allergist next Tuesday for a consultation and allergy testing. I had testing done years and years ago but I want to see about getting allergy shots so they need to do it again. I wonder if an allergist can diagnose asthma?

The rheumy I saw back in December increased my Lyrica dosage to 150mg twice a day instead of once. Speaking of medications, generic Ambien is not working for me. If I take 10mg of it I throw up. If I take 5mg nothing happens. If I take 5mg of the real Ambien, I get visual hallucinations after about 15 minutes and become very trippy. I don’t see how they can say it’s the same as regular Ambien.

The doctor I saw last week gave me some samples of Singulair (the medication he wanted me on last month but the insurance denied but I don’t think he filled out the paperwork properly because I fit the qualifications). I’ve been able to actually breathe at night so I think it’s helping. Now I just need to get the insurance company’s approval because it’s too expensive otherwise. Maybe the allergist would fill out the paperwork?

SOE Needs a New Marketing Team

There’s been a lot that’s annoyed/upset me over the years I’ve played EQII because of choices made by the devs. This is the first time that it’s been the marketing team that has done so.

It’s been known for several months that there is a house pet only available to preorders. What hasn’t been known is how exactly we receive the preorder. A preorder box at pickup? Or what? There’s been many posts about this on the forums. EB Games website stated, up until today, that all preorders will receive the pet. SOE’s website also stated that (as far as I know). Myself, and many others, preordered the game in-store at local stores.

Today, someone posted on the forums that EB Games website now states that the pet is only available to ONLINE preorders. A dev then posts the response that it’s true, with a quote from marketing that says (and I don’t remember exactly) “we’re trying to make this as easy as possible and we informed retailers and they should have informed the customers, blah blah blah”. Hah. Many people have asked at retail stores and NONE of them knew anything about how preorders would be delivered. I’m sure people who work for SOE have seen all these posts over the past few months wondering about the preorder and seen the people believing that all preorders will get the pet. And they wait until someone not from SOE sees that EB Games updated their information to post the correct information about how to get the pet, 5 days before release.

There are going to be a lot of people unpleasantly surprised on release day I think, when they pick up their games in the store and they find that won’t be getting their house pet. And it’s not just a regular house pet, it’s one that will occasionally find collection items for you. There won’t be anything they can do about it, since it will be too late to preorder online.

I’m going to be canceling my in-store preorder and preordering online. But I’m not happy about having to do so.

Everquest II

I finally got into the Rise of the Kunark beta and that’s downloading at the moment. I’m looking forward to its release on the 13th. Calandra’s been at the level cap for awhile now. I’ve been leveling her up as a sage and she’s now a level 54 sage. The other character I’ve been playing the most has been my wizard who’s level 55 now. I also have two low-level Faes (a Warlock and a Coercer) and a low-level Arasai (a Fury), plus my level 59 Mystic that I don’t play much anymore. I still have fun playing but no else in the guild plays anymore really so it’s kind of lonely sometimes.

Faes!

This is the Fae I created in the Everquest II beta. Faes are the new race that will be available in the expansion, coming out November 13.
