movies

I’m in a cross-stitching mood again finally, thanks to Mythical Dragon (progress pic coming tonight or tomorrow). This means I spend a lot of time watching things on TV. I spend a lot of my time watching The-N, such shows as Degrassi, Sabrina, and Clueless (and Full House, on different channels). I’ve pretty much seen all the episodes of all the shows (I used to watch Sabrina, Clueless, and Full House each week when they were on) so that can sometimes get boring. Our OnDemand hasn’t been working for the past two weeks (need to call to reschedule appt) and usually the movies on TV suck.

This past week I borrowed Under a Tuscan Sun (which I really liked) and Fifty First Dates (didn’t like quite as much) from my parents, who had rented them. Tonight I got two movies from Blockbuster (using free coupons Joe got from someone at work) and borrowed three movies from my brother’s family. They are: Star Wars Episodes I and II, 10 Ways to Lose a Guy, LotR: The Return of the King, and Underworld. I’ve seen them all except Underworld. Joe and I are also going to be watching Star Wars Episodes IV, V, VI sometime soon.

My last assignments for Advanced Graphic Design are due tomorrow and I haven’t started them. The one is a discussion board thing as usual and the other is a critique and evaluation of a design. I think that’s a really sucky final project. That should have been the DB topic or something. We had to do the same thing as a final project in Theory and History of Visual Communication. I just really think we should have had another actual project. We need things to put in our portfolio and potential employers aren’t really going to care about a critique. I’ll just do them quick tomorrow. I have an 89 in that class. I don’t know if it’s going to end up an A or not.

preston child

Krissy asked me which Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child book I recommended starting off with. I decided to answer here because maybe some other people would be interested in reading them. I feel that the order you read some of them is very important.

Here are their books, in order of publication:

  • Relic
  • Mount Dragon
  • Reliquary
  • Riptide
  • Thunderhead
  • The Ice Limit
  • The Cabinet of Curiousities
  • Still-Life with Crows
  • Brimstone

Five of the books (Relic, Reliquary, Cabinet, Still-Life, and Brimstone) are what I call the Pendergast books. Pendergast is an extremely cool and unusual FBI agent. He’s not the only main character that reappears in them. There are many repeat characters, along with new ones. The main female character in Cabinet is the main female character from Thunderhead. Other characters from the other books are mentioned in other books as well.

As for reading order…you should definately read the Pendergast books in order. I personally read Mount Dragon, Thunderhead, Riptide, and the Ice Limit out of order, but order of publication would be the best order to read them. Also be sure to read each section for each book on the website after you finished the book…some have web-only epilogues. If you only want to read the Pendergast books (they’re the best IMO) the only thing you’ll miss is getting some of the references to the other books and knowing more about who some of the characters are.

I hope some of you read them (or have read them already). They’re great!

harry potter

Joe and I went to the 10:10 showing of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban last night. The theatre wasn’t very crowded and was mostly adults. There were two kids there, which I was suprised about. I wasn’t expecting to see any since the movie wasn’t going to be over until 12:40. The kids were probably around 8 or 9 years old.
Anyway, click below to read what I thought of the movie.

music

Lately I’ve been really into the music of Loreen McKennitt & Blackmore’s Night. Can anyone recommend any music that is similar to either of them? Celtic/Renaissance type music.

Speaking of Blackmore’s Night, I’m going to see if Joe wants to go see them near Philly in September. I really want to go and the tickets aren’t too expensive. It’s only about 2 hours from here.

Maburaho

Last night Joe and I watched the first episode of a new (for us) anime: Maburaho. I had seen a picture from it on the cover of his anime magazine and loved the one character: Yuuna. It was pretty good, although not nearly good as Chobits.

Description from animenfo.com:
Our main character is the seventeen-year-old high school student, Kazuki Shikimori. He attends the elite school for training people in the art of using magic, Aoi Academy, but as for his grades, it would be faster to count his rank starting at the bottom. On top of that, he can only use magic eight times in his whole life! Because he’ll turn into dust if he uses up his magic, he spends his days depressed, unable to even use magic.

One day, a girl named Yuuna Miyama shows up in front of him. “From now on, we’re husband and wife!” While he is still shocked, Kuriko Kazetsubaki and Rin Kamishiro appear before him. They have but one goal. To get the genes from Kazuki that hold the world’s most powerful magic…

What destiny awaits the failure of a wizard, Kazuki Shikimori, who is suddenly being targeted by three beautiful girls!?

winged orange christmas prompt #24

Do you plan to go to bed early tonight, or are you staying up in hopes of hearing the hooves of eight tiny reindeer on your roof? Will you be tracking Santa on NORAD Santa.com?

I’ll be going to be “early” tonight, about midnight (I usually go to bed about 2 lately). We have to get up at 8 tomorrow. I never tracked Santa before and doubt I will tonight.

Tonight we’re having our Christmas Eve dinner here. Only my brother’s family is coming. And Joe of course.
