halloween crafts

I had forgotten Mom had ordered those Halloween bead kits for me while ago. At Joanne Fabric tonight I found some Halloween crafts on sale. I bought the Halloween paint, the ceramic ghost and cat, and the ceramic witch, cat, and pumpkin. They were each $2. I’m looking forward to painting them. I haven’t painted anything in awhile.

finished dragon

dragon of fire

I finished the Dragon of Fire tonight. It was a pain to get a good picture of it. It’s still not as good looking as in real life.

not doing much

I haven’t worked on my cross-stitch much at all lately. I did as much as I could on the Dragon of Fire and the Kreinik I need to finish it still hasn’t arrive (soon…). I’m also waiting for the fabric and Kreinik for the Dragon of Water to arrive (same shipment). I don’t want to start anything else new until I finish the owl for mom so she stops bugging me about it. I haven’t been in the mood to work on it though. It’s about 2/3 finished. I just have to do the log at the bottom and the bottom third of the background. I’ve only gotten tired of a stitching project once before. That was the mythical dragon that I stopped working on in August. On that one, I finished the top half of the dragon and had started working on the border. I had to rip part of the border out several times because I miscounted and I just wasn’t enjoying working on it. On the owl, it’s just not that much fun stitching a log. Part of the fun of cross-stitch is seeing how pretty or cool the picture comes out when you’re done. And well, it’s a log. It’s not pretty or cool or interesting at all. So I’m having a really hard time making myself work on it. I need to just make myself do it though.

1. Which do you prefer, Kits or Charts?
If it’s something that I don’t have most of the supplies for I prefer a kit. Now that I’m more into stitching on evenweave or linen, I prefer kits that have that (but most don’t).

2. Why?
The local stores around here don’t carry a large amount of specialty threads or so on so I have to order most of my supplies online.

3. How do you organise your materials before you stitch
I organize the thread by color by punching holes in a piece of manilla folder and writing on the folder the color # and symbol. Then I stick the thread through the holes. I also like to scan the chart and print another copy to work on.

4. Do you do anything to the sides of your fabric before starting?
I put masking tape on it, even though you’re not supposed to really.

5. What do you do with the leftovers when your done?
Put them with the rest of my leftovers in a drawer in my cross-stitch storage unit.

1. Do you like to use specialty stitches when you stitch?
Yes, I think it makes it more interesting.

2. Can you do a perfect french knot?
It’s not perfect but it’s pretty good.

3. What is your favourite stitch?
Well, I haven’t really done many different speciality stitches. I enjoyed making the eyelets on Christmas Mystery and I do like making french knots.

4. Are you currently working on any projects with specialty stitches and if so which ones?
Nope, not right now.

5. Name a specialty stitch you would most love to learn how to do.
I’d love to just learn more of them.

1. What is your favourite theme to stitch (i.e. primitive, fantasy, samplers, etc)
Definately fantasy and ocean/beach scenes. I loved them both equally.

2. Has this always been your favourite theme (i.e as your tastes change)?
Yep, pretty much. Originally I bought more ocean/beach than fantasy because there wasn’t much of a variety in stores. Now that I discovered all the ones available online, I think they’ll end up being equal.

3. How many WIPs/UFOS do you have currently in this theme?
I have three fantasy ones and no ocean/beach ones. Two that are on break and one that I just started over the weekend.

4. And how many finished?
Fantasy: only the 9 Christmyth Ornaments from Dragon Dreams
Ocean/Beach: 8 finished

5. Name three favourite designs in your overall favourite theme.
That’s hard partly because I love them all and partly because I haven’t done all that many.
Fantasy: Not Forgotten, the Salamander from the Christmyth Ornaments, and the Dragon of Fire
Ocean/Beach: A New Beginning (my first cross-stitch), Beachcomber Cottage, and Shell Wreath.
