September is Vampire Month for Me

As I mentioned earlier, I’m doing NanoWriMo the year. My novel is going to involve vampires. I just read the Twilight Saga this summer. Whatever I do write, my main character isn’t going to be an annoying no-personality blob.

During September I’m going to be doing vampire research. This will also eventually go on my dark-creatures.com website (not up yet). I own at least 4 vampire “non-fiction” books already. I have a show on vampires saved on the DVR (along with Bram Stoker’s Dracula). And I took The New Annotated Dracula out of the library today.

I’ve been “into” vampires since before it was trendy. I remember when I was in 11th grade, sitting in the lunch room reading a book on vampires I had bought (the only book on vampires the store had). The girls I was sitting with probably thought I was quite weird.

During October, I’ll be outlining my novel. I didn’t do this last time and it may be a part of why I gave up after a week. And possibly doing more vampire research on TV, as it is Halloween month.

Finally Finished

I finally finished the Snow Leopard cross-stitch I was working on for my mom. That thing is huge. I’ll be posting the final image at oceanbreeze.net in a few minutes.

I’ve also been rereading books by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child. Their next book comes out May 12 and I’m really looking forward to it. It’s another Pendergast novel.

I’ve been having a lot of joint and muscle pain the past couple months along with sleeping problems. My right foot was especially bad and they did an xray which showed a heel spur so they diagnosed me with plantar fascilitis. My family doctor gave me a prescription for Ambien CR (I’ve tried it before, but my insurance didn’t cover it). My insurance will cover it now, but the doctor has to send in forms first that show I tried other drugs first.

I see my rheumatogist again in a week or so and I’ll see what he says about the pain.

Cross-Stitching

I’ve been cross-stitching a lot lately. I’ve been working on my mom’s Christmas present, a snow leopard. It might just be the most complicated one I’ve worked on so far. Lots of multi-color stitches and so on and most of the surface of the fabric is covered with stitches. Plus, since it’s mainly a large cat with a little background, there’s not a lot of definable areas. This makes it harder to realize you’re making progress. In the other one I was stitching before, it’s a bunch of seashells and seaweed and a seahorse. So you can say “oh, I finished another seashell”. But this one is “oh, I finished another area of color that I will have to repeat further away on the fabric”.

It’s unpleasant or anything. I might not finish it before Christmas though, even though I’m trying to.

Art Supplies

I went to Dick Blick and bought the art supplies I had wanted as a birthday present. I got Inktense pencils, which are like watercolor pencils but are ink pencils. Plus a 4×6 and a larger watercolor block and a water brush. I tried out my new pencils already and they’re very nice.

I created a new painting tonight. A watercolor wash background and the word Love using the ink pencils. I’m not totally pleased with it though, but it was a fun experiment.

Home Sweetness

Home Sweetness is the cross-stitch I’ve been working on lately. I keep bouncing around from project to project but I think I’ll be sticking with this one till I finish. I finished Autumn Angel a few months ago but still haven’t taken the “Finished” photo or framed it. I misplaced my mat cutter and haven’t located it yet. I have some other ones I want to reframe as well as framing Not Forgotten (I finished that one a year ago). I have Southwest Blend mostly finished as well. Speaking of oceanbreeze.net, I also never added some of my finished cross-stitches, such as the Christmyth Ornaments. I also see at least two that don’t have any pictures at all posted. I should do that sometime.

Painting

I started painting in watercolors again the other night. I started trying to paint some fairies (I got a new book on fairy painting the other day). The multi-colored sponged backgrounds look great. The fairies…not so great. I think I need a lot more practice at painting them. Tonight I think I’m going to start a painting of a rooster to give my mom for Christmas. She has roosters all over her kitchen. Then I’ll probably paint a fish for dad for Christmas.

Last spring I painted several pictures but I don’t think I’ve ever shown them here. I added them to fuzzydoodles the other month when I was redoing the site though. Speaking of which, I never finished redoing the site so a lot of things are missing. (If you visit fuzzydoodles anytime soon, there’s two links to “Gallery”. Only the one on the right works.)
