I’m trying to work on my cell bio lab reports. I have the first one done except for the discussion section…we’re supposed to explain the absorbance spectra curves for 4 solutions in terms of the three-dimensional shape or configuration of the molecules. Like I have any idea of their shape or configuration! I looked them up online and found structures for three of them but as I suck at chem I have no idea what they mean. Oh, how I long for zoology and the days of describing the digestive features of roundworms. Which I never thought I would ever say.

So this is what I registered for this morning (at 6:30 am…ugh).

Genetics
The gene is defined at biochemical, molecular, organismal and population levels. Labs studies with Drosophila, microorganisms, cell culture, modern molecular genetic techniques. 2 hours lecture, 3 hours lab. Prereq: BIOL 263; CHEM 231 or 235 recommended.
ESCI 328: 4 s.h.
Petrography/Igneous and Metamorphic Petrology (W)

Offered in spring of even years. Prereq: ESCI 227.
ESCI 425: 3 s.h.
Geodynamics
Composition and state of the Earths interior; recent contributions from geophysics and geochemistry; plate tectonics in relation to internal physical processes; evolution of the Earth before and during the Phanerozoic. 3 hrs. lecture. Offered in spring of even years. Prereq: ESCI 321 and 328, PHYS 231.
Spring Schedule
The spring schedules are available so I planned out what I want to take. I need to find out if I can bypass some prerequistes for a geology class next semester and next fall but I doubt it will be a problem (the one in the fall requires phys232 as a prerequisite but I can’t take it in the spring as planned because a geo course I have to take is scheduled at the same time).
So I’m planning on taking:
Genetics MW 3:00 – 3:50 Lab R 1:00 – 3:50
Petrology MWF 9:00 – 9:50 (A.M…ugh) Lab W 1:00 – 2:50
Geodynamics MWF 11:00 – 11:50
Technical Writing MWF 12:00 – 12:30
That’s 13 credits. And I’ll do my 5 hours of work for the geology department MWF 9:50 – 10:50 and M 1-3. The best part? No class on Tuesdays!!!! And I get to sleep in Thursdays. But I’ll have to get up around 7 on MWF…yuck. I can’t register until either Nov 7 or 10 (depends on if my HACC credits transfer in time for registration).
major
I am once again wondering if I have chosen the right major. I don’t know that my current major and eventual career will satisfy my creative side. I also don’t feel smart enough to succeed in my career. I do better in the biology aspects than the geology aspects. I don’t know if I could succeed in biology though due to my inability to handle dissections.
My other options for getting a degree in are some sort of graphics design or web design. And as before, I don’t think I’m talented enough for either, especially graphics design. A little dream I’ve had of late is of being a professional cross-stitch designer, but I doubt that would happen.
I feel so envious when I see other people’s artwork. Not necessarily because I can’t do that, because while I’d probably never be as good as some, I think that if I tried I could do something good. But I don’t try usually. I start sometimes, but then I get lost in my other interests.
The thing is, while I don’t know that geology is right as a major (it still is definately an interest, I just don’t know if it’s the right career), I do not want to switch majors again. I’ve switched so many times and I should have graduated two years ago. I don’t want to waste more money on more college courses that don’t count towards my eventual degree. And I’m getting to the point where I just want a degree in something. Which isn’t necessarily the right attitude to have.
And this is something I really should have posted in my journal but it’s so discouraging writing in there because I almost never get any feedback (thank you Crystal for your comments before).
I’m just not having a good life right now. In addition to everything else, I tried selling my Garbage Pail Kids cards on ebay. It was my first time selling anything. Several people bid and the total price was $16.50. The guy who won said he sent me a money order. I never got it and then he said the bank said it was cashed. So he said he’d send another one. That was two weeks ago. I need to email him again. I just don’t want to have to deal with all this. Why couldn’t it have been a simple transaction like it should have been?
