No short-term disability

I heard back from work today…they don’t have any short-term disability insurance.

So…what am I going to do? Even if I work up until I have surgery (if I do have surgery) I’m going to be out likely for months, based on what I’ve read of other people’s experiences. I can’t afford to be without pay for even a week.

  • =(

  • That’s bad. :(

Have you done everything you possibly can to cut costs? I assume you’ve already cut all luxury spending (games, books, movies, magazines, game-, magazine-, website-, etc subscriptions, cancelled all website both of you have (yes, you host people but having a place to stay is more important), stopped buying makeup and things of that nature, stopped using contact lenses if either of you do, etc, (you’d know your luxury spendings much better than I would, so you’d know what you’ve already stopped doing). Have you cut all non-necessary spending (clothes, desserts, new things for the kitchen, etc) and started buying only the most basic staple food and the cheapest (that’s still good enough quality) you can find? If you eat meat often you could save a lot by using beans instead.

Do you have any computers you could sell? Any gaming units, tvs, dvds, cds, and their respective players you have might bring in a bit of cash depending on what you have, and assuming you haven’t already sold them. If you have a lot of books, you might find some that people would pay for. Cameras? Do you have more than one car? Do you need more than one car? Could you sell the old car and get one with cheaper monthly costs? Could you find a cheaper place to live?

You’ve probably done most of this already but it seems like such a horrible situation. :/
