my day

Today had been a pretty good day. I got enough sleep last night. I was kept busy at work making a brochure thing for a Career Fair they’re going to tomorrow. I even stayed an extra 25 minutes and didn’t mind a bit to finish them up. I got home and in the mail was an envelope from Social Security. I was all excited, thinking my new card had arrived with my married on it. But no, they returned what I sent along with a letter saying that I had to have proof of my new married name such as a license or health insurance card.

The reason I went to SS first was because I had read about people having trouble changing their name at the DMV without their updated SS card. I had read of people in PA being told they couldn’t change it without the new SS card. So I got rather upset. Now I’m going to have to wait longer to get my new card. I’ll attempt to change it at the DMV this weekend but that just ruined my good mood.

So I wasn’t in a good frame of mind to start my NaNo novel. It did not go very well. I had a really difficult time thinking and only ended up with 781 words for today. My novel is about a woman named Carolina who finds out her ex-boyfriend from years ago has died of unknown causes. She begins seeing his ghost around and tries to figure out how he died. She’s 26, has a long-distance boyfriend, and is assistant manager of a bookstore. As of now, I have no idea how he died, but hopefully by the end of the month I’ll know. If I make it till then writing the novel.

  • ug, the name change thing is such a pain in the butt. I had to do SS first and then the DMV, but my friend Jolene at work had to do it the other way; she got her license first and is now wrestling with SS. they sent back all her stuff saying she didn’t have enough documentation. wtf? I recommend going to an office and doing it in person if at all possible.

  • I had my license done first.. all I had to do was have my marriage license to prove I got married, etc… then I went to the SS office itself here in town, just had my marriage license, birth cert, and probably my new license I dont remember since it was almost 5 years ago now, and got all the stuff filled out to get my new SS card..

*hugs* sorry its such a hassle hon..

  • I sent a copy of my marriage license in to the SSO here and it took them forever and a day to get it back to me! I went ahead and changed my license while I waited and found I didn’t need the new SSC to change my name on the license. I also had to wait almost 5 months after we got married to change all this stuff because of how long it took for us to recieve the marriage license. I was so annoyed. I still need to change the name on our bank account, actually…

  • I took my marriage certificate into the DMV’s office and they gave me my new lisence. I then went into the SS office after recieving my new lisence and they didn’t give me a problem, I think I also brought my birth certificate just to be on the safe side…

Hope you get things figured out, changing your name is always a pain in the ass to deal with.

  • Good luck with your novel! I know a few people participating in NaNo, and I’d love to do it myself, only I’m absolutely rubbish at coming up with long plots >.>
