job

I have a job! It’s not much, just 5 hours a week minimum wage (about $5.15 an hour I think). So I’ll only be making about $25.75 a week, minus taxes I guess. But that will be $20 more dollars a week than I make now, that I can spend any way I want. I’m so excited to be able to spend money again, I’ve only bought pre-approved (by mom) and sensible purchases for the past 6 months or so. I find it very frustrating that I’m 23 (almost 24!) and have to have my purchases approved by my mother. But, she puts money into my account when its low lately so I can’t complain. I don’t know how long the job will be…I have to ask tomorrow. It’s cleaning and organizing the geology prep room. Dr. Marquez asked me today if I was interested. She said she asked me because she thought I was a conscientious person and that’s what she needed. I’ll be putting away and organzing the maps that are on the floor and doing something (I forget) with the minerals that are on the shelves. Plus other things. Like I said though, I don’t know if the job is only until it’s straightened up or what. I was extremely happy that she asked me, I usually don’t get asked for stuff like that for some reason. The five hours a week are any that I want, it just has to be a set schedule (although I can always change it later). I’ve decided that I’m going to do it Thursdays after class from 3:30 till 5:30 and then MWF from 9:45 till 10:45 before class. I’ve been getting there at 10:10 or so MWF anyway for my 11 am class just so that I can get a parking space. Might as well make it a little earlier and do my hours then. I think it will also be good experience knowing my way around the geology prep room. If I go a good job, maybe I’ll even be asked to do more for the department (not that she mentioned anything…I’m just hoping).
